A firefighter-owned concrete coating business
If you know any firefighters, you recognize that they are typically known for being highly motivated and hardworking. They’re driven by challenges and love to stay active, which is why many of them take second jobs or start their own side hustles.
We at Guardian Coatings KC follow this stereotype. What started as our desires for good-looking garages quickly led to a newly formed business.
After years of organizing and beautifying each other’s garages, the three of us kept returning to the idea that epoxy flooring would really elevate our garage games — and make us the envy of our neighborhoods. In true DIY-dude fashion, we determined that it would be much more satisfying to do it ourselves.
We jumped in, becoming professionally trained in proper surface preparation and in installing epoxy, urethanes, polyaspartics, and cementitious coatings. We grew in our craft and our understanding of all that’s possible in the world of epoxy. Suddenly, we couldn’t imagine only doing our own garages.
In 2021, Guardian Coatings KC opened its doors to the Kansas City metro area, providing polyaspartic, epoxy flake, and decorative cementitious coatings for garages, basements, porches, patios, and other concrete surfaces.
In addition to Guardian Coatings KC and our firefighting careers, we also install custom LED holiday lights through our sister company, Hung Well KC, which has operated since 2017. We are passionate about making people even more excited about their own homes.
